Now. What you just saw was the potential future of Augmented Reality. AR is already used for certain smartphone games and even on the Nintendo 3DS. What it does is provide an overlay of reality...and disturbingly enough that short film is probably more accurate than you'd like to think.
Full disclosure, I have several stories I'm currently working on set in a future of rampant Agumented Reality. They are no where near as high minded as this but that doesn't mean I'm not trying to make them poignant...oh, and isn't Google working on something like this?
